What scares Constantine 2 producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura? Right now, it's reading the script
For di Bonaventura, who's producing the sequel to Keanu Reeves's cult outing as John Constantine, the most terrifying kind of Hell may be "development"

Despite its significant departure from its Hellblazer source material, the Keanu Reeves-starring Constantine movie is still beloved by many horror fans. So when a sequel was announced in 2022 (and then re-confirmed in 2023), the film's frightful fanbase found their hearts a flutter. But as the movie continues its slow march toward reality, there's a non-demonic fear that's kept producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura awake at night: that is, the new Constantine 2 script, which di Bonaventura says he's "scared to read."
The news comes to us from ComicBook.com, who recently released a brief conversation with di Bonaventura about the long-anticipated sequel, which will again star Keanu Reeves as ass-kicking exorcist John Constantine. Di Bonaventura, who also produced horror movies like The Devil Inside and 2019's Pet Sematary, said of the Constantine 2 script: "You know it's in my inbox right now. Funny enough, I'm too scared to read it, though [...] I want it to be good so bad. I probably read it in the next few days. When I get on an airplane."
Sure, the idea of an already slow production being even slower might be disappointing to Constantine fans, but there's also an undeniable element of good news in di Bonaventura's sentiments. First, this is confirmation that a Constantine 2 script not only exists but is complete (at the very least, a draft of it is). And second, it's nice to hear that the film's decision-makers have a real desire for the project to turn out good.
We share that same kind of nervousness, Lorenzo. But at the same time, even if it isn't, there are other ways to make a really great John Constantine film. I mean, has anyone contacted Matt Ryan lately?
