Supergirl isn't really Supergirl for most of her movie, says Milly Alcock

Milly Alcock isn't in the Supergirl costume as much as you'd expect for the character's first DCU solo movie, according to the actress

If we've learned anything from watching superhero movies, it's that not all heroes wear capes. DC Studios is putting this idea to the test in next month's film, Supergirl. While the Supergirl trailers have shown Kara proudly sporting her House of El shield, apparently we shouldn't expect to see it for the majority of the film's runtime.

"[A Blondie shirt] is what she wears all the time in the film. There’s absolutely no makeup. And she’s making absolutely no effort with her appearance — that’s not her priority. And she’s not in a good mood!" said director Craig Gillespie to Variety

Elsewhere in the interview, Milly Alcock was asked when Kara puts on her Supergirl suit. The actress said, "I don’t know if I can tell you," but after she was pressed for answers, Alcock said, "It's DC — I’m scared. But I don’t wear it as much as people will think. It’s a journey."

She continued, "Through helping save this young girl and deal with her trauma from losing her entire family, there’s a kinship there. She realizes that being Supergirl has nothing to do with her and has to do with everybody else around her. She needs to put her own feelings aside to help others, and through that she can save herself. So that’s what the suit is for her."

Given that the Supergirl movie is based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely's limited series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, we already know how things end for Kara at least in a rough sense. But it will still be gratifying to see Alcock's Kara suit up and conquer her trauma next month.
