Somebody give Guy Ritchie a break.
The director, whose recent credits include The Gentleman for Netflix, Mobland for Paramount+, and the upcoming Young Sherlock for Prime Video, seemingly just can’t get enough of directorial projects for popular streamers. Case in point - he’s set to tackle Road House 2, also for Prime Video.
The news comes from Deadline, who report that Ritchie actually takes over in the director’s chair from Doug Liman, the screen vet who helmed the first Jake Gyllenhaal-starring Road House movie, itself a remake of the Patrick Swayze classic. Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, will return as the lead character, Elwood Dalton.
As of this writing, there’s no word yet on when the Road House sequel will start streaming, but as we sort of implied, Ritchie’s schedule leads us to assume that it may be a minute. And while we’re on the subject; Gyllenhaal, too, has got multiple pokers in the fire. The actor is working on a host of projects at the moment, including a crime drama alongside Jessica Chastain, a witness protection thriller, and a movie called In the Gray directed by…
Damn, dude. Guy Ritchie.
Let’s hope this new Road House has a place to sit down.
