Move over Hit Man, Scorsese, and every other original movie on Netflix - you have a new critical hit rival: KPop Demon Hunters

The numbers don't lie - Netflix has achieved pure cinema with KPop Demon Hunters, if ratings from critics and fans alike are anything to judge by

The masses DON'T WANT prestige drama anymore. They want POP STARS with SWORDS killing DEMONS. We have the math to prove it.

OK, so if you look at the most critically-acclaimed original films on Netflix, you'll technically see that they want both. You'll also see, however, that they wanted the latter - that is, new animated action musical, KPop Demon Hunters - a little bit more than they wanted prestige drama, or anything else for that matter. After its release June 20 on the platform, KPop Demon Hunters has received the best combined critic and audience scores of any Netflix original movie to date. Yes, I said any.

That list I'm talking about can be found on Forbes, who published the news of KPop Demon Hunters' rapid ascendency June 25. Forbes looked at scores on KDH's Rotten Tomatoes page and found that it scored a 95% with critics and 93% with audiences, added together for a 188 total. They then compared that to several of the other highly-rated Netflix originals, which boast Oscar-winning directors such as Martin Scorsese and Alfonso Cuarón. Here are the rest of their findings:

  • The Mitchell’s vs. the Machines: 97% critics score 89% audience score, for 186 total
  • Hit Man: 95% critics score + 89% audience score, for a 184 total
  • His Three Daughters: 98% critics score + 83% audience score, for a 181 total
  • The Irishman: 95% critics score + 86% audience score, for a 181 total
  • His House: 100% critics score + 73% audience score, for a 174 total
  • Rebel Ridge: 95% critics score + 73% audience score, for a 168 total
  • Roma: 96% critics score + 72% audience score, for a 168 total
  • Carry-On: 88% critics score + 51% audience score, for a 139 total
  • Extraction – 67% critics score + 71% audience score, for a 138 total

Now let's be clear - Popverse is not advocating at all that the directors whose Netflix projects were outrated by KPop Demon Hunters stop working at all. We're just saying that maybe those directors should consider making their next collaboration with the platform more along the lines of pop stars singing and dancing while they save the world from the forces of evil.

Just saying: if you get Scorsese doing one of those, odds are we could get Robert De Niro doing KPop karaoke. Show me a person who wouldn't give that a perfect Tomatometer score and I'll show you a liar.

KPop Demon Hunters is streaming on Netflix now.
