After Barbie, Margot Robbie had planned to take a long break - then she got the chance to work with The Penguin himself, Colin Farrell

As if the chance to work with Colin Farrell wasn't enough, Margot Robbie also loves a film with a long title

After starring in one of the biggest movies of the past decade, you can understand why some actors might want to take a little break. In the wake of the billion-dollar box office success of Barbie, Margot Robbie was ready for a few quiet years off from acting to recharge her creative batteries. However, less than a year later, she changed her mind when she read the title of her latest film. Plus, it gave her a chance to finally work with Colin Farrell.

“Just as soon as I’d said I’m gonna take a minute off, there was a script, and the title caught my attention because I love a long title,” Margot Robbie said during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers alongside Colin Farrell. The film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, also stars Farrell, which was another reason that Robbie came out of her break to star in it. “And then I heard that Colin was going to be doing it, and I was like, ‘I’ve always wanted to work with him.’ And then I started reading it, and it was impossible to say no to. It was just so magical and original… and it had a bit of everything in it. And it was one of those movies that made me feel like, ‘Oh, our very ordinary lives are very extraordinary.’”

We don’t doubt that other scripts were offered to Margot Robbie in the wake of Barbie, but clearly none of them had the right co-star… or a long enough title to grab her attention.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell is out on September 19, 2025.
