It’s been three years since we’ve seen Star-Lord, and there’s no word on where he’ll appear next. The 2023 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with Peter Quill leaving his friends behind to reunite with his grandfather on Earth. The film had a cryptic teaser at the end of the credits stating Star-Lord will return, but as of this writing nothing has materialized. However, Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt teases that there are plenty of stories left to tell with the character.
“There are more opportunities to tell stories about Peter Quill, because that’s a trauma he has in his life and it didn’t end happily,” Chris Pratt says during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And so now he would be, wherever we should find him, in a real position to try to define himself. He doesn’t have a life; he doesn’t have the obligations of a family and a wife and all that stuff.”
When asked what he knew about Star-Lord’s future, Pratt hesitated before giving a coy answer. “Yes and no, yes and no,” Pratt says.
“The thing is everything is all liquid. And they kind of take things a step at a time at Marvel. I’m happy to do anything they want me to do and will. And also, I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do. And I think it’s fucking great.”
He continued, “I think that I’m down to contribute any way I can to them setting up the next 10 years of storytelling. And also, I have a pretty strong idea of how I think I could contribute to that.”
While Pratt enjoyed working with the Russo Brothers for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, he says it wasn’t the same without James Gunn in the director’s chair. “When we did Avengers with the Russos, it was an amazing experience, but also a slightly different experience than doing it with James. In a dream world it would be somehow James, but I don’t think that’s likely to happen.”
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. Will we see Star-Lord return to the big screen for the film? Only time will tell.
