The He-Man characters are ridiculous - and the latest Masters of the Universe featurette leans into that
Look, when your hero is called "He-Man" and your villain is called "Skeletor," there's hardly any reason to play things subtle. And by all appearances, the Masters of the Universe movie has no plans to do so

I'm just saying, Shakespeare didn't write that. With absolutely no disrespect meant to the Masters of the Universe franchise, there's never been much use for subtext regarding He-Man and his cohorts. Look past the obvious moral coding in the names of the primary hero and antagonist and you'll find other such gems as "Evil-Lyn" and "Clawful" in the cast of characters - names that tell you not just which side the characters are on, but what their whole gimmick (read - action figure purpose) is.
And that's not something the new Masters of the Universe movie is shying away from. For proof, look no further than the most recent featurette released by Amazon MGM Studios on April 29, which leans into the characters ridiculous (and shockingly direct) names.
Some of the, as star Nicholas Galitzine puts it, "eccentric characters" that we meet in this trailer are "heroic human periscope" Mekanek and Ram-Man. "You ram," Galitzine's Adam says to the latter, "And you're a man." That's not dialogue that's going to nab anybody an Oscar, reader, but at the same time, nobody's gonna be walking out of this film confused.
Masters of the Universe and its very descriptive credits roll come to theaters June 5.
