The latest movie to get the live-action remake treatment from Disney is Moana. The live-action 2026 incarnation will translate the original 2016 animated version, with Dwayne Johnson reprising the role of Maui. So, when can you plan on the release date for Moana (2026) to arrive?
The Moana release date is July 10th, 2026 in theaters. It has been about a decade since the original Moana debuted on November 23rd, 2016. And it's been less than two years since the animated sequel, Moana 2, debuted on November 27th, 2024. Meanwhile, about a year has passed since the most recent Disney live-action adaptation of an animated movie was released, as Lilo and Stitch was released on May 23rd, 2025. Of course, there are a lot of movie release dates for you to bear in mind this summer. Here's the official trailer for Moana:
In addition to Johnson as Maui, the movie will also star Catherine Laga'aia as Moana. John Tui will appear as Chief Tui, Moana's father, while Frankie Adams plays Sina, Moana's mother. Rena Owen will appear as Gramma Tala, Moana's grandmother and Tui's mother. Meanwhile, the role of Heihei the chicken will be played by an undisclosed female actress instead of Alan Tudyk, who originated the role in the animated movies.
The theatrical release date for Moana is July 10th, 2026.
