Ready? Fight! The sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat film (not to be confused with the classic 1990’s Mortal Kombat film) is just around the corner. At last, Johnny Cage is joining the Earth Realm warriors as they take part in the titular tournament. Mortal Kombat 2’s release date is coming and we can’t wait to see what bloody chaos our heroes are in for this time.

Mortal Kombat 2 will be released on October 24, 2025. Most of the marketing around Mortal Kombat 2 has focused on the appearance of Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban this time around. While we’re excited to see Urban’s take on the character, we just hope that he isn’t reduced to comic relief in the movie. We won’t know until Mortal Kombat 2 hits theaters, joining a busy autumn of movie releases that will make the box office almost as competitive as the Mortal Kombat tournament itself.

According to the screenwriter of Mortal Kombat 2, the film picks up right after the conclusion of the first movie. After that one ended, they knew they needed to include the titular tournament and, importantly, bring Johnny Cage into the mix. According to the screenwriter, both happen in this movie, along with all the over-the-top gore and violence you’d expect from a Mortal Kombat movie. If it isn’t going to spray blood all over the place at every given opportunity, then they’re doing it wrong.

Mortal Kombat 2 is out on October 24, 2025 in theaters.
