The 2021 Mortal Kombat film featured lots of punches, kicks, and all the battle action fun we’ve come to expect from the franchise.
The upcoming sequel, which hits theaters next May, is going to double that.
Simon McQuiod, the director of Mortal Kombat II, was asked if the sequel would have twice as many battles, and the filmmaker’s answer should make longtime MK fans happy.
“Yes, is the short answer,” McQuoid says during a Mortal Kombat spotlight panel at New York Comic Con. “I think the tournament itself allowed us to create a structure that the storylines all went through all the time. So, all of our characters, their journeys have to go through the tournament, and we wanted to do that in a way that was visually massive, but visually interesting, and always have the variety that Mortal Kombat has from the beginning. It was a constant balance.”
Mortal Kombat II hits theaters on May 15, 2026.
