Paddington 4 gets surprising new writer: The co-creator of HBO's Veep

Armando Iannucci, known for pitch black political satires such as In the Loop and The Death of Stalin, is joining StudioCanal's megahit children's movie franchise. Yes, we also have questions

More like Paddington Swear, amiright?

OK, you're not laughing now, but you'll be simply rolling off your couch once you learn the Paddington news that we just did. Yes, we're talking about Paddington, the PG-rated StudioCanal film franchise based on the children's novel series by Michael Bond, whose fourth film is currently in the works. Apparently, that latest chapter of the marmalade-loving bear's story will be written by none other than Armando Iannucci.

Co-creator of HBO's Veep.

The story comes out of a Variety article dated May 26, which announces Iannucci as the Paddington 4 scribe alongside Simon Blackwell, another creative pen behind Iannucci's very dark political satires Veep and The Thick of It. Now, in case you're this far into the article and still aren't in absolute stitches regarding my opening joke - the choice to have Iannucci and Blackwell on Paddington duty is suprising for one major reason: up until now, most of the creators' work is very, very adult.

Don't believe me? Then I guess I'll just have to point you toward this Reddit thread of the best insulting descriptions from the US-government-parodying Veep, a few of which I'm going to list here. Keep in mind, these are some of the least vulgar I can come up with - it wouldn't surprise me if Veep's TV-MA designation is for language alone.

  • "The fourth horse-face of the apocalypse"
  • "Like someone melted Play-Dough all over a flagpole"
  • "A monument to vaginal dryness"

Pretty great, right? But here's the best part - according to this thread, one of the best Veep insults ever happens in the season 5, episode 2, when Anna Chlumsky's lead character Amy Brookheimer looks to Sam Richardson's lovable regular Richard Splett and says:

"What is wrong with you, you Paddington Bear-looking fuck?"

Forget my joke from before - that is funny.

Paddington 4 is currently without a release date, but we'll let you know as soon as we do. Veep is streaming now on HBO Max.
