Disney is apparently "castle shopping" for a location worthy of Anne Hathaway for The Princess Diaries 3

The last film in the series came out in 2004, so it has been more than 20 years since the last Princess Diaries movie

The one thing that every royal needs, more than a crown or scepter or even subjects, is a good castle. Disney knows this, which is why they’ve been out castle shopping in Europe. No, Elsa isn’t getting the live-action treatment. The castle in question is for Anne Hathaway as she returns for The Princess Diaries 3, more than 20 years after the last movie.

The report came in earlier this week that Disney had sent a creative team to the Czech Republic for some “castle shopping” as they scout out possible locations for The Princess Diaries 3. The news comes about a year after Anne Hathaway, who had her breakout role in 2001’s The Princess Diaries and its 2004 sequel, confirmed on social media that she was coming back to the franchise.

While this is certainly not a sign that filming is anywhere close to starting, it is the first movement toward a third Princess Diaries movie we’ve had since Hathaway’s post. It marks yet another instance of studios dipping into films from that era to capitalize on the nostalgia millennials have for their favorite movies. Shrek and Freaky Friday both have long-awaited sequels out this year and the Mean Girls musical film was released last year. Clearly, studios are banking on a healthy dose of nostalgia to help them through the coming years.

Considering they’re still scouting locations, we’re a long way from a release date for The Princess Diaries 3. Fans have waited this long – what’s a few more years?
