Ryan Gosling's Star Wars: Starfighter will definitely have no legacy characters, so stop asking

Star Wars: Starfighter writer reiterates, once again, that Daisy Ridley and John Boyega aren't going to show up in the upcoming movie. For real.

One of the strange things about the Star Wars universe is that everyone seems to know each other. For a galaxy brimming with spacefaring races across multiple systems, you can’t turn around with someone like Boba Fett or Luke Skywalker showing up. That won’t be the case for Star Wars: Starfighter; the film’s writer says the Ryan Gosling film will be free from legacy characters to make it feel as new and fresh as Star Wars can be.

During a recent interview, Jonathan Tropper, the writer of Star Wars: Starfighter, offered a bit of insight into how director Shawn Levy and actor Ryan Gosling were planning to keep the film feeling like Star Wars without including any existing Star Wars characters. Part of it comes down to knowing what to include and what not to include.

“Obviously, lightsabers are a part of that universe and that part of the galaxy,” Tropper said. “I’m so careful not to reveal anything, but essentially, I think it’s known that we have no legacy characters. You’re not going to see any of the characters you’ve seen in the other movies. So there are certain things that are still hallmarks of Star Wars that it’s good to have in there. But more than that, I can’t say.”

So the team behind Star Wars: Starfighter really, really wants you to know that there are no legacy characters in the movies. Or is this all just a bluff to keep us guessing what is going to happen in the film? We won’t find out until the Star Wars: Starfighter release date on May 28, 2027.
