Netflix sequel The Old Guard 2 release date: Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman star in the super sequel

A superhero sequel based on the comic by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, The Old Guard 2, is heading your way this summer.

Immortal soldiers who have been alive for millennia cannot be confined to a single movie. So you shouldn't be surprised that The Old Guard 2 is on its way to Netflix this summer. Starring Charlize Theron as the long-lived warrior Andromache of Scythia (Andy), the movies are based on the comic by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. The sequel boasts a screenplay by Rucka and is directed by Victoria Mahoney. And in addition to the return of characters from the first movie, The Old Guard 2 will also add some fresh big-name stars.

The Old Guard 2 release date is July 2 on Netflix. Arriving just before the Fourth of July, the 104-minute sequel will be ideal for those looking to inject some action into their holiday weekend. In a summer filled with exciting movie releases, The Old Guard 2 is a title for which action fans will want to set aside time (especially if you yourself are immortal - eternity can get so dull). Check out The Old Guard 2 trailer:

The anticipated R-rated sequel sees Andy grappling with the implications of the loss of her immortality. But the situation grows complicated when the first of the immortals emerges from the shadows and threatens our heroes. Soon Andy and her team of immortals must step up and stop the first before it is too late. The Old Guard 2 will see the return of KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Plus, Uma Thurman and Henry Golding will be joining the sequel's cast.

The Old Guard 2 will be released July 2 on Netflix.
