DC boss James Gunn confirms: A Wonder Woman movie is in the works

The as-yet-untitled Wonder Woman movie is currently being written, James Gunn says

Yes, DC is working on a Wonder Woman movie.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that a Wonder Woman movie is ‘being written right now” in conversation with Entertainment Weekly. That’s a standalone movie unconnected to the already-announced Paradise Lost HBO Max series which will tell the history of the Amazons, which Gunn confirmed is still in the works but “slow moving.”

No actor has been cast in the title role, according to Gunn, nor has any writer been named for the Wonder Woman movie. This might be a good time to mention that Tom King, who’s currently writing DC’s Wonder Woman monthly comic book series, is also working with DC Studios on the Lanterns series for HBO, and was part of the writers room that broke the original plan for DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters release slate, wouldn’t it…?

Confirmation of a Wonder Woman movie means that all four of the characters named by David Zaslav — head of DC Studios’ parent company Warner Bros Discovery — as DC’s most important heroes now have their own movies in the works: Superman is in theaters July 11, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has just finished shooting for a 2026 release, and Batman will star in The Brave & The Bold, a movie announced as a Batman and Robin co-starring feature.

Beyond Superman’s July 11 release, the next DC Studios release will be Peacemaker Season 2, on HBO Max August 21.

James Gunn's Superman is flying into theaters soon enough, and Popverse has all you need to prepare.
