The new Wuthering Heights movie has divided fans and critics, but there is one thing that it has succeeded at, and that is reminding everyone of how damn good the original book is. If you’ve seen the Wuthering Heights movie and want to see how it compares to Emily Brontë’s original classic, you’re not alone; sales of both the Wuthering Heights book and audiobook have surged since the new movie came out.
The new Wuthering Heights movie, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, takes some pretty big liberties with the original plot; namely, it stops well before the end of the actual novel. Despite this, it has racked up a healthy box office so far, with more than $92 million in ticket sales in its first week at the box office. And it is reminding people to read the original Emily Brontë novel as well.
After the trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation dropped, the audiobook version of the original novel saw a 440% increase in sales. Meanwhile, sales of the Wuthering Heights book, both print and ebook editions, soared in January 2026 – more than eight times the number sold in January 2025. This suggests that fans were excited to dive back into the classic romance novel well before they bought their ticket for the new Wuthering Heights movie.
Listen, we don’t mind why fans are pulling Wuthering Heights off the shelves and giving it a much-deserved read; we’re just glad that this iconic book is inspiring a whole new group of fans to do wild, mad things for love.
