Barbara Goodson has been a legend in the voiceover industry for years, since her iconic work as Rita Rupulsa on Power Rangers, but 30 years later, she’s still capable of stealing every scene she’s in. That’s how Aleks Le, the actor who plays Jiji in Dan Da Dan, described working with the iconic actor as she brought the troublesome Turbo Granny to life.
During the Dan Da Dan panel at Anime Expo this year, the cast was asked what their favorite moments from other cast members were. Aleks Le, who played the adorkable Jiji in both seasons of Dan Da Dan, admitted that Barbara Goodson is absolutely still just as iconic as she has always been. He admitted that “the character who steals the show is Turbo Granny. So anytime I’m watching the show and I hear Barbara [Goodson] just go off, it’s amazing. Obviously, I’ve known her from her work on Power Rangers and stuff like that when I was younger, but hearing her now and being part of something with her is truly a blessing. She brings such flavor and comedic power to the show.”
Goodson, of course, plays Turbo Granny, a yokai who steals Okarun’s testicles in the first episode of the show – remember, Dan Da Dan gets wonderfully weird at times – and has nothing but contempt for the younger characters. Hearing Goodson, who has consistently worked for decades now, bring such energy to the foul-mouthed frenemy is one of the biggest highlights of the show. So we’re inclined to agree with Le on this one – Barbara Goodson’s Turbo Granny is impressively fun in every scene she is in.
