No one can accuse Hideo Kojima of being lazy. Not only is he spinning his most recent hit, Death Stranding, into a live-action movie, but the Metal Gear Solid creator has set his sights on anime. A Death Stranding animated series is in the works and they’re bringing it to Disney+ in 2027.
We’ve known for a while that a Death Stranding anime was in the works, but this is the first time we’ve had any more details than a vague statement from Hideo Kojima himself. Kojima Productions announced that they were producing Death Stranding Isolations, an animated series based on the video games. Along with that announcement, they confirmed a 2027 release window. Interestingly, this is the same year that the Death Stranding live-action movie, which is being directed by Michael Sarnoski, is set to be released.
Death Stranding Isolations is a separate project from Death Stranding Mosquito, an anime film based on the games that is also in production.
Disney+ has been confirmed as the streaming partner for the Death Stranding anime series. Death Stranding Isolation will follow an original storyline not covered in the games, similar to how Netflix approached Cyberpunk Edgerunners a few years ago. While he earned his reputation for unconventional storytelling with the Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima is clearly hoping that the Death Stranding series will be what carries his legacy forward in the coming years.
Death Stranding Isolations, the anime adaptation of the hit Hideo Kojima video game series, is set to arrive on Disney+ in 2027.
