Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Oz, AKA Seth Green, was in the original 1992 movie - but his scene got cut

"I’m in a scene with Paul Ruebens," says Green, who became an icon in the Buffyverse for his role as werewolf Oz, "It’s not a popular fact. I got cut from the movie."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans know Seth Green as Oz, the werewolf companion of the Scooby Gang played by Seth Green. The thing is, though, that character wasn't Green's first go-round in the franchise. In fact, the Family guy voice legend was in the original 1992 movie that spawned the series. Or rather, he would've been, had his scene not got cut.

Green was a recent guest on The Bitch is Back, the Patreon podcast of his Sunnydale costar Charisma Carpenter. As with many of her guests, Carpenter asked Green about his introduction to the Buffyverse, and was surprised to learn that Green was in the '92 original, which starred Kristy Swanson and Donald Sutherland and was written by future series captain Joss Whedon.

"Yeah," said Green, "I’m in a scene with Paul Ruebens. It’s not a popular fact. I got cut from the movie."

Well, dang, Seth. Sorry you got left on the cutting room floor, especially since you got to share screen time with Pee Wee Herman himself. However, Green also clarified that at least one vestige of his appearance in the film did survive.

"Weirdly enough," Green explained, "I’m on the back of the DVD box. [...] They used a still of me and Sasha [Jenson, who played character Grueller]. I’m, like, biting because I’m a vampire, with braces. It’s very silly."

A vampire and a werewolf? Dang, Oz, we never knew.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale is slated to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2026.
