Critical Role's Laura Bailey is excited to finally reveal the full origin of Jester in the Mighty Nein animated series on Amazon's Prime Video

Bailey teased her tiefling cleric's arc in the upcoming animated adaptation of the Mighty Nein campaign - and she did it in Jester's voice, so we know it's true

Wildemount is coming to a screen near you as Prime Video and Critical Role's Mighty Nein are adventuring into your homes this fall. And if you were at San Diego Comic Con 2025, you might have been in the room to get a special look into the animated fantasy series at the Critical Role panel. Had you been there, you would've learned one of the key differences between the campaign as we know it already and its cartoon adaptation.

That is, beloved fan-favorite Jester Lavorre is getting more of a backstory.

The news comes from a discussion held with the Critical Role cast - Matthew Mercer, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Liam O'Brien, Ashley Johnson, Taliesin Jaffe, Marisha Ray, and, of course, Laura Bailey, who created and voices the character of Jester.

"Laura," asks the panel's moderator at about the halfway point of the panel, "What are you most excited about for fans meeting Jester for the first time?"

"What am I most excited about?" says Bailey, slipping into the vaguely Eastern European accent that Critical Role fans know as Jester's voice, "Meeting me?"

This gets a round of applause. What can we say? Jester's a crowd pleaser.

"I just love that we're driving into her origin a little bit more," continues Bailey, in her own voice, "And so you get to see her in her element before she runs into…  am I allowed to say this?"

Oh, right. We have to "avoid spoilers" or whatever. Gotta get the crowd excited though, Laura, so can we get some more of that Jester voice?

"You get to see why she is the way that she is," says our Borat-ian tiefling pal, "Which is pretty wonderful. I don't know what I can say."

Honestly, you've said plenty! Fans of Critical Role's Mighty Nain campaign (and the comics that followed) have been in love with Jester since she first appeared at the CR table, and a guarantee that we'll learn more about her while also seeing her walk, talk, and fight in gorgeous animation is enough to keep us waiting.

The Mighty Nein comes to Prime Video November 19.
