Fans who want to know a little more about their favorite Critical Role characters should start planning their end of year pretty carefully. Why, you might ask? Because November 2025 sees Dark Horse Comics release Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins Boxed Set, bringing together the backstories of everyone from Jester Lavorre through Beauregard Lionett in one beautifully designed place, just in time for the holidays — and we can give you an exclusive sneak peek.

Created in collaboration with the cast of Critical Role (and featuring the work of creators including Cecil Castellucci, Mae Catt, Kevin Burke and Chris 'Doc' Wyatt, and Jody Houser, amongst many others), the Mighty Nein Origins Boxed Set brings together the eight hardcover graphic novels published by Dark Horse between 2021 and 2024 telling the early adventures of the fan-favorite cast of Critical Role’s second campaign.

(Those eight books are: Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Jester Lavorre, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Caleb Widogast, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Yasha Nydorrin, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Fjord Stone, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Nott the Brave, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Mollymauk Tealeaf, Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins - Beauregard Lionett, and Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins : Caduceus Clay, if you’re wondering.)

As if this all-in-one collected edition wasn’t enough reason to get excited, the Boxed Set also features the debut of an all-new slip case designed by illustrator Robynn Frauhn. The whole package looks like this:
