Foundation is back for its third season coming in Summer 2025, which means we may get some answers to the questions the far-future sci-fi series has posed. Nearly two years after season two debuted, Foundation season three’s release date on Apply TV+ is fast approaching, letting us see the potential fall of a centuries-old empire. Foundation is one of the most ambitious and unique sci-fi shows on TV right now.

As surely as they rise, empires fall. Those that have lasted as long as the Empire in Foundation usually have the furthest to fall. However, that doesn’t mean that they fall fast. Foundation takes place over centuries as the Cleon Empire, which has ruled the galaxy for 12,000 years, unravels due to a series of unavoidable disasters. Foundation season 3's release date is July 11, 2025 and will likely pick up over 150 years after the events of the second season, joining an increasingly crammed summer television schedule in the process.

The nature of Foundation makes it difficult to know exactly what is going to happen in the next season. After both Brother Day and Brother Dusk are killed, it becomes clear that the Empire’s grip on the galaxy is swiftly unraveling. A second Foundation has been launched into space with the mission of preserving their collective knowledge and skills. It sets up a return 150 years later as the Mule, one of the series’ most mysterious antagonists, becomes aware of Gaal Dornick’s existence once again.

Foundation season three returns to Apple TV+ on July 11, 2025.
