Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano has a strict 'no reading fan fiction' rule for the series writers, according to Angel Dust actor Blake Roman
You can write your incredibly elaborate fan theories about Hazbin Hotel knowing that the writers and creator of the show probably won't read them - and that's a good thing.

We’ve got some bad news for you. That incredibly intricate and involved Hazbin Hotel fanfiction you’ve been crafting over the past few years? Well, there is a good chance that the cast and writers of the series have actively been avoiding reading it. Not because it is bad, but because they don’t want it to influence what they do with future seasons of Hazbin Hotel.
As the cast of Hazbin Hotel explained at MCM Comic Con 2025, they try to avoid reading too many fan reactions to their work. Blake Roman, who plays Angel Dust in the Prime Video series, explained that there is always a risk of pandering to what fans have reacted well to instead of staying true to their artistic vision – which is what fans fell in love with in the first place.
“I think people like what you initially put out and because it’s original and not because you were pandering.”
As for the rest of the creative team, the cast was quick to mention that the writers and creators of the series actively avoid looking at fan theories or anything else like that.
“Personally, I don’t [read them],” explains Roman. “And [Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano] is also adamant that she [and] none of the creative team really looks at it.”
This is probably to avoid being influenced for future stories, as Roman says above, but also to avoid the illusion of stealing ideas for plots from fans. Both can become problematic for the creative team as they power through to the eventual second season of Hazbin Hotel.
So, no, the cast and crew of Hazbin Hotel probably won’t read your elaborate fanfiction, and they can’t listen to your fan theories about the show, but that just means you can let your creativity flow without worrying about judgment. At least, not from them.
