Anime nerd John Boyega loves Naruto the most, and has some hot takes on Attack on Titan

Oh, and don't forget One Piece. John Boyega has thoughts on One Piece too, and they're probably similar to yours

Many, many Florida Supercon 2025 attendees were there to A.) see their favorite movie stars and B.) celebrate their anime fandom. And if you happened to be at the John Boyega Spotlight panel, you got to see your favorite movie star celebrate his own anime fandom, as a great chuck of the discussion revolved around Boyega's love for the medium's greatest pieces.

Like, for example, Naruto, of which Boyega claimed to be a longtime fan.

"I was with Naruto when he was by the swings getting bullied," said the Attack the Block actor, "That's where I knew him from. I was 14 or 15, when he was like, 'I'm going to be the first Hokage!' I knew him from those days."

Hokage, for those not in the know, is a title of great power in the Naruto series, which you can learn all about via Popverse's Naruto watch order. But maybe hold off on going down too much of a rabbit hole just yet, because it wasn't only Naruto that Boyega was at FSC to talk about. No, in terms of anime, Star Wars's Finn was there to talk about Attack on Titan.

And more specifically, his problems with it.

"I actually went back to restart Attack on Titan," recalled Boyega. "It kind of went left for me when they went to the other people. I lost track. So I had to go back to the beginning, get my nostalgia, and really track where the story went with all these unknowns. It got confused. I was like, 'What the hell? I don't want to know about them.'"

Those we're not 100% sure which shift in narrative focus Boyega is referring to here, we believe he's either talking about Season 3B or Season 4 of the Attack on Titan anime; both of which track storylines not centered around the characters we began the series with.

"Give me Captain Levi [a major character from seasons 1-3] and all those guys," Boyega said, declaring his love for the original core cast of the show. Well, except for its main character, Eren Yeagar. "Eren," Boyega clarifed, "He does get on my nerves a bit. You guys too? He's always screaming! Calm down, bro."

I don't know, John, "screaming" seems to be a thing for most anime characters, not just Eren Yeager. Characters like Monkey D. Luffy, who, wouldn't ya know it, Boyega had some opinions on as well. Well, one opinion, and it's one we have to say he's right on the money about.

"One Piece," the actor sighed, "I'm going to be real with you guys. We're family here, right? Help me with my issues. One Piece is long. Some people say, "No, you just don't have the right attention span.' No, bro. By the time you're done with One Piece, you have a wife and kids."
