Not even in the depths of the ocean can you escape the KPop Demon Hunters hype

If there is one thing we’ve all learned over the past year, it is that no one is immune to the power of KPop Demon Hunters. Merch is flying off the shelves, a sequel is brewing, and now we’ve just heard that two of the film’s stars will be doing a new TV special… as part of Discovery Channel’s Shark Week.
We’re not sure if we should be surprised at this point when we see seemingly unrelated shows trying to cash in on the overwhelming popularity of KPop Demon Hunters. Discovery Channel is getting Ken Jeong, who played Huntrix Manager Bobby, and Rei Ami, who provided the singing voice for Zoey, are set to star in KPop Shark Heroes. The Shark Week special, which is set to air in late July 2026, is aimed at changing the perception of sharks after recent shark attacks off the coast of Korea.
The pair of unexpected shark advocates is aiming to “reshape the perception of sharks across East Asia and around the globe,” according to the press release announcing the show, which is a lofty ambition for an animal that hasn’t been looked at the same since Jaws. The press release assures us that this is possible through the “power of K-pop,” which is a wild thing to say out loud. We’re hoping that there will be a We Are The World style single at the end with some K-pop royalty joining in. BTS just got back together, after all.
KPop Shark Heroes is, inexplicably, airing during Shark Week this July on the Discovery Channel.
