Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin says he’s constantly confused with the Beatles producer George Martin (which caused some problems when the producer died)

Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has to remind people that he’s not a knight and he never produced the Beatles

George R. R. Martin is a best-selling author, winner of multiple Emmy Awards, and has holds a Doctorate from Humane Letters from Northwestern University. He also wrote Game of Thrones, which is a pretty big deal. He’s done a lot of things.

However, he never produced the Beatles. That’s another George Martin. That guy was knighted.

Don’t feel bad if you got them mixed up, because according to George R. R. Martin, that happens all the time. “I don’t want to shock anyone, but I’m not actually a lord. And I’m not even a knight,” Martin told the crowd during a panel at New York Comic Con 2025.

“There was Sir George Martin, and he ran the Beatles, and he died a few years ago. But they knighted him. He was Sir George Martin, and when he died, a lot of people thought I was dead, which was a bit disconcerting. I had to put out, no, I’m not dead, and also, I’m not a knight, and I’ll be a knight because I’m not British.”

In fairness, if you’re going to be mistaken for another person, you could do a whole lot worse than Beatles producer Sir George Martin.

New York Comic Con 2025 continues through Sunday, October 12.
