Juliet’s emotional death scene on Lost had to be reshot when the film was destroyed (much to Josh Holloway’s dismay)

Lost’s Josh Holloway and Elizabeth Mitchell were forced to redo Juliet’s emotional death scene after the original film was destroyed

The ABC series Lost had many memorable moments, but few of them are as heartbreaking as Juliet’s death in the season six premiere ‘LA X.’ Juliet detonates a hydrogen bomb and dies in Sawyer’s arms during one of the most emotionally intense scenes of the series.

I remember watching that episode when it first aired in 2010, and you can tell Josh Holloway gave it his all. Holloway (Sawyer) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet) poured their hearts and souls into the death scene, which is why it should come as no surprise that it’s one of Holloway’s favorite moments from the series.

“I think the scene where I had to drop her down the hole, and I have to go down there and hold her in my arms and she dies,” Holloway says during a panel at Florida Supercon. “We filmed the whole thing, and it was beautiful, and then two days later Jack Bender called me and said they x-rayed the film and destroyed it all in the airport. So, we had to film that again. That was heartbreaking because we really did it, and then so we really did it again, and it turned out well.”

Considering how powerful the aired version was, I can’t help but wonder if the lost footage was more intense. Either way, Holloway is right, because the second take turned out well. Sawyer saying goodbye to the love of his life remains one of the most heartbreaking moments on television.

We filmed the entire Lost panel, and you can watch here as a Popverse member.
