Matlock season 2 release date: Kathy Bates returns as the titular lawyer this fall

The sophomore season of Matlock will be here before you know it.

Loosely based on the legendary 1980s TV series of the same name, the reboot of Matlock starring Kathy Bates has already captured the hearts of viewers. Set in a universe where the original Matlock aired just like it did in our universe, the show follows retired lawyer Madeline Kingston (Bates), who adopts the guise of Madeline "Mattie" Matlock in order to achieve her goals. No doubt you're eagerly awaiting Matlock season 2 on CBS. So when can you expect the show's release date to arrive?

The Matlock season 2 release date is October 12 at 9:00 PM ET on CBS. New episodes of Matlock season 2 will continue to air on a weekly basis in that time slot on Thursdays after that, beginning on October 16. The show will air after an hour long comedy block composed of Georgie & Mandy's First Wedding and Ghosts. And of course, there are many other new and returning shows that are vying for your attention this autumn. As of writing, we are still waiting on a trailer for Matlock season 2.

In the reboot of Matlock, Kingston adopts the persona of Matlock in part because she was a fan of the original series starring Andy Griffin. In the reboot, Kingston's daughter was a victim of the opioid epidemic. In order to infiltrate the law firm she believes has hidden evidence related to her daughter's death, she steps into the guise of Matlock and becomes employed as a lawyer there. To earn the trust of her new colleagues, "Matlock" must apply her legal acumen to assist in the execution of their respective cases. The show also stars Skye P. Marshall as Olympia Lawrence, Jason Ritter as Julian Markston, David Del Rio as Billy Martinez and Leah Lewis as Sarah Franklin.

Season 2 of Matlock will debut October 12 at 9:00 PM ET on CBS.
