What to Watch This Weekend: Jason Momoa as a Hawaiian war chief, Tom Brady invades real football, and reality romance veterans clash in Perfect Match

Three big shows are debuting and returning this week on Netflix, Amazon's Prime Video, and Apple TV+.

In life, there are just a few key questions that plague us all - but one you might overlook is 'What to watch this weekend?' In this world of multiple streaming services and never a great one-stop place to know what all is happening, Popverse would like to be the angel on your shoulder (and sometimes devil on your other shoulder!) giving you recommendations for the high-brow movies and TV to watch, and the feral junk-food of streaming to also enjoy.

For the weekend beginning Friday, August 1, here's What to Watch this Weekend:

Perfect Match, season 3 (Netflix)

Welcome to the world of professional reality show romances, as host Nick Lachey returns with a new season of Perfect Match. In this season, some of your favorites and not-so-favorites from Love is Blind, Too Hot to Handle, Temptation Island, Love Island, Siesta Key, and The Bachelor shack up in this post-modern dating game built for scandal.

Built in Birmingham: Brady & The Blues (Prime Video)

Missing Welcome to Wrexham? Here comes something close to it - and wildly off. Future NFL hall-of-famer quarterback Tom Brady is ditching American football for real football in this Prime Video docuseries focused on Birmingham City Football Club. It's all about the clash between Football and American football here, helped by the wildly charismatic, anachronistic, and sometimes weird Tom Brady. In some ways I'm hoping for this to be more of a thematic sequel to The Roast of Tom Brady than Welcome to Wrexham... but hey, what can I say, I like car wrecks.

Chief of War, season 1 (Apple TV+)

Finally, a historical drama centered in the culture of Hawaii. This series stars Jason Momoa as the iconic 19th century warrior chief Ka'iana who goes from warrior to celebrity to revolutionary.  Partnering up with his Aquaman dad Temuera Morrison and one of my favorite character actors Cliff Curtis, Jason Momoa has been developing this for the past decade - and from the trailers it shows.

But wait... there's more. Here is our full guide to all of the August 2025 streaming debuts and returns on Netflix, Amazon's Prime Video, HBO Max, Hulu, Apple TV+, and more.
