The marketing team for Netflix’s One Piece series has been going into overdrive lately. They’ve been dropping interviews with the cast and crew for the past few weeks, but last week they gave us the first good look at what we can expect from the eventual season two. They sent Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran, who is playing Miss Wednesday/Vivi in the upcoming series, onto the incredibly detailed Loguetown. What we got was a whole host of Easter Eggs from the manga, setting our expectations for One Piece season two remarkably high.
We’ve known that Charithra Chandran is playing Miss Wednesday since casting announcements for One Piece season two started last year, but last week Netflix posted a video featuring the Bridgerton star to their social media that gave us our best look at the first big set piece to the new season. Chandran took us on a tour of the set, which, aside from looking absolutely massive and detailed, featured some fun Easter Eggs from the manga.
What Easter Eggs are those? We’re glad you asked. The ones we spotted were:
- An opera about Vice Admiral Garp, the Hero of the Marines and, more importantly, Luffy’s grandfather
- A Doskoi Panda store based on the in-universe fashion brand
- The Ipponmatsu Sword Shop where Zoro meets Tashigi
- Banners celebrating 22 years since Gol D. Roger’s execution
We’re sure that there are plenty of other nods to Oda’s original manga hidden in the short clip, but the biggest takeaway is the sheer scale of the Loguetown set. As Chandran says, it looks like a full village as she’s walking around it, which bodes well since it sets the stage for the first arc of One Piece season two, which is still waiting for a release date from Netflix.
