Sorry, Outlander fans: producers won't share the alternate series endings that were filmed

Multiple endings were filmed for the series finale of Outlander in order to maintain the surprise, but the producers says there's only one we'll ever see

Starz's Outlander recently wrapped up its eight season, 12 year run with a series finale that, as seems to be a growing trend, leaves fans with burning, unanswered questions. But the ambiguity goes even deeper as multiple endings for the show were filmed, with no one knowing which one would actually be Outlander's final word - alternate endings that the series' producers say no one will get a chance to see.

"No, you're not gonna see those scenes," producer Matthew B. Roberts frankly revealed during a Paley Center live event celebrating the series' conclusion. Viewers left mourning the show's tragic yet hopeful ending may never get to see what might have been - but there's hope yet as the Outlander book series by writer Diana Gabaldon is still underway, with the strong likelihood that it won't simply follow the events of the show.

One thing that definitely wasn't filmed was a scene where Jamie and Claire take a Hawaiian vacation... something producer Maril Davis jokingly admitted she pitched.

"I just wanna say, it didn't make it, but I pitched really hard for Claire, and Jamie, and me, to go to Hawaii, and it never made it," she laughed.

"I also was pitching that with you," added Claire actor Caitríona Balfe, with Matthew B. Roberts rounding out the bit saying, "I wrote the scene, and I pitched it to Sony and Starz, and they just didn't want it. They didn't see it. The mai-tais, the sunsets."

As silly as it is, that may have actually appealed to some of the show's fans who have asked for a break from the drama and intensity of the series to see Jamie and Claire enjoy some domestic bliss, like seeing Jamie "just make some fuckin' furniture."

But that's not the way the show went in its final episode, which fulfills the prophecy of Jamie's impending death that haunts the final season. Or does it? There's some question leftover thanks to the show's supernatural elements, that, like the recent series finale of Stranger Things that left Eleven's true fate up in the air, leave some daylight for fans hopeful for a truly happy ending.

Outlander is streaming in full on Starz.
