The Smallville cast want to make something new together – but it won't be a superhero story

The Smallville cast want to make a western together (and they’re planning on pitching it to Hallmark)

The Smallville cast are cooking up a reunion plan, but it isn’t for a superhero project. Tom Welling, Erica Durance, and Laura Vandervoort realize that they don’t need to wait for a Smallville revival to work together again, which is why the trio brainstormed an unconventional reunion vehicle in front of a live audience, recently - a Hallmark holiday western.

“Would you do a western?” Erica Durance asked Welling and Vandervoort during a panel at Spacecon 2026. “I would love a western,” Welling answered. “Me too!” Durance responded.

“Let’s do a Hallmark western. Why not?” Welling said, causing the audience to cheer. “Who would watch a Hallmark western with us?” Durance asked, causing the crowd to get louder. “We could be like High Noon or something. It’s all of us on a horse,” joked Welling, adding, “Listen, there’s two things in a western. It’s ‘Go get that guy’ and ‘Who’s the new guy.’ It’s always the theme in the western. So maybe there’s a new guy in town, and we all have to get together to catch him.”

“Would we do the same relationships? Like, I’m your cousin? Erica is your love interest?” Laura Vandervoort asked. “Sure,” said Welling, reasoning, “It would be weird if we flipped it. You’re my cousin [points to Erica], and you’re my wife [points to Laura].”

In case you thought this was just a fun convention panel riff, Laura Vandervoort decided to take things further. “I really like this idea. I’m not joking,” Vandervoort said shortly before pulling out her phone, and adding, “Hallmark, if you’re listening, we have some ideas.” She then instructed the audience to chant “We want a Hallmark Christmas western,” so she could record it and pitch it to Hallmark. The audience obliged. Vandervoort then reaffirmed that she was serious about pitching this.

Honestly, Hallmark makes dozens of Christmas movies every year, so I have to imagine there’s room for this one. Plus, they would have the built in Smallville audience. Maybe this is one of those panel bits that will go nowhere, but if the Smallville cast can pull this off, it might be one of the most offbeat reunion movies ever conceived.
