He does everything a spider can, but with moral ambiguity and grit. Why? Because he’s Spider-Noir. After Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir became one of the standout characters of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, it wasn’t long before rumors began swirling about giving the character his own show. Those rumors seemed to come to fruition this week as Amazon showed off the first still images of Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir in their upcoming live-action series for Prime Video.
Spider-Noir is set for a 2026 debut and will be available in both black and white and color when it comes out, a feature that certainly caught our attention when we read it. Though Nicolas Cage is reprising his role from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the series has been described as more closely based on the Spider-Man Noir comic book from Marvel. The show will follow an aging and down-on-his-luck private eye in '30s New York, who must grapple with his past life as the city’s only superhero.
As you would imagine this yearly in development, the first images for Spider-Noir don't give much away from the plot. However, they do give an idea of how the show will eventually look. There is an element of Sin City in the image of Spider-Man in this setting. Amazon seems to be aiming to bridge the gap between the animated film and the lush detective noir feel of the source material and we're very excited to see it.
We had genuine doubts about this series when we first heard about it, but the fact that there will be a black-and-white version and it leaning into the Spider-Man Noir comic book rather than just being a rehash of jokes from Into the Spider-Verse has us far more interested in the Spider-Noir series coming from Amazon. Give us a hard-hitting detective story with Nicolas Cage’s uncanny ability to take any role, no matter how silly, deadly serious.
The first images of Spider-Noir have been released by Amazon ahead of the show’s 2026 release window on Prime Video.
