Stranger Things may be ending, but Sadie Sink admits she "didn't really feel like" she was saying goodbye to Max Mayfield
To be clear, we're not saying Stranger Things's Max is getting a spinoff. We are saying, though, that Sadie Sink would be ready for one

Sadie Sink is a bonafide household name. From Netflix's Fear Street trilogy to Broadway's John Proctor is the Villain to the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans across the spectrum of the entertainment landscape know her face. And yet, as Sink herself will readily tell you, there's one project for which she is likely most known: Stranger Things. And even though the story is coming to a close (for now), Sink does not exactly feel like she's bidding farewell to the character that put her on the map.
Let us explain.
Sink recently sat down for a wide-ranging conversation with Harper's Bazaar, in which the actor discussed basically everything we mentioned above (well, not Spider-Man. Those Marvel lawyers have eyes and ears everywheer, after all). And when the subject of Netflix's Stranger Things season 5 came up, in which Sink will reprise her role as Hawkins resident Max Mayfield, the 23-year-old star revealed how close she and the character had become.
"I get very, very emotional when I have to leave a character," Sink said, "For Max, I was like, Oh, this is going to absolutely destroy me [...] But for some reason, it didn’t really feel like I was saying goodbye to her at all."
Don't take this the wrong way, content-hungry reader - this is absolutely not Sadie Sink saying that her character is getting a spinoff of the show, nor is it her confirming that Max Mayfield will play a part in already confirmed Stranger Things spinoffs, such as the animated series on its way. However, it's hard not to read this statement as pointing to the idea that, should she be given the chance, Sink would fill the role again.
"So much of me is Max," Sink explained "She was created when I was 14 years old. I poured so much of myself into her."
Stranger Things season 5, volume one debuts November 26 on Netflix, followed by volume 2 on December 25, and the ultimate finale of the series on December 31.
As we all collectively wait for Stranger Things season 5, here's the keys to getting ready:
- How to watch Stranger Things in chronological or release order
- Getting to know the Stranger Things season 5 cast
- There needs to be more death in Stranger Things, says co-star Gaten Matarazzo
- The Stranger Things time jump between season 4 and 5 has been confirmed by Netflix - and it raises some serious questions
- "They land the plane," David Harbour describes the Stranger Things finale, which he calls its "best episode"
