More people tuned into the Stranger Things season 5 release date announcement than the Stranger Things season 4 debut on Netflix

If a quarter of a billion people tuned in for Netflix's Stranger Things release date reveal, just imagine what's going to happen when season 5 actually drops this Thanksgiving

It has been a few days since Netflix (finally!) revealed the Stranger Things season 5 release dates via an official, very retrospective announcement video. You can get a look at the video just below, but just know before you watch, you're joining a veritable legion of other viewers who have already watched it. In fact, according to a recent report, Netflix found more people watching the season 5 release date announcement than they did watching the debut of season 4.

The numbers come from Variety, who published an article June 5 claiming that the Stranger Things season 5 release date announcement video had received a whopping 250 million views since it dropped at Netflix's Tudum 2025 on May 31. Comparatively, the Stranger Things season 4 premiere scored a (still incredible) 140.7M viewership during its debut. That is, the first 91 days that it is available to stream, as you'll remember Popverse reporting on recently.

Now look, we know that there's a lot more to watching single announcement video than there is watching an episode of the same series, to say nothing of watching the actual season of said show altogether. However, it should be noted that Netflix has claimed this is the most impressions they've ever gotten on an announcement video, and you know they're keeping things like Wednesday season 2 and Squid Game season 3 in mind for those numbers.

We're just saying.

Stranger Things season 5, volume 1 drops November 26, with volume 2 out on December 25 and volume 3 (the finale) making its way onto Netflix December 31.
