Sullivan's Crossing star Scott Patterson explains why he left ahead of season 4 release date (and hints at something personal)
Someone is cross on the set of Sullivan's Crossing, and questions emerge of if the Sully actor quit or was told not to appear in season 4.

One of the namesakes of the hit TV series Sullivan's Crossing is rather cross with how their exit from the show has been framed online, and wants to set the record straight.
Scott Patterson, who some of us first remember as Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls, is the patriarch Harry 'Sully' Sullivan in the romantic drama Sullivan's Crossing. After three seasons and amped-up interest thanks to Netflix picking up the show in reruns, the fourth season is scheduled to debut this fall - but without Sully.
That's right, there's to be no Sully in Sullivan's Crossing. And it comes down to "creative differences" between himself and the show, and what seems to spilling over into personal differences.
"Every actor knows what it’s like to fall in love with a character and a story. I fell in love with Sully and have nothing but fondness for him," Patterson writes on Instagram. "The creative differences were becoming untenable and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue."
Patterson's departure from the show was announced recently, but the actor says that unidentified people involved with the show have been casting aspersions that the show decided to end his tenure on the show, when he says it's the opposite.
"It’s unfortunate that it is now being implied that they moved on from me/Sully when the fact is the complete opposite, and those who sadly already have spoken out are also fully aware of this fact, and yet chose to say otherwise," the actor continues.
While he is careful not to say who, the most vocal person involved with the show saying it wasn't his call is showrunner Roma Roth, who earlier this week told People, "The character remains an important part of the world with the potential to be included in future seasons should that align with the ongoing creative."
Patterson's Sully was last seen at the end of season 3 leaving for Ireland to rejoin his recent love interest Helen Culver, played by Kate Vernon.
"I really enjoyed Sully and fought for his voice and his character," Patterson says. "The richness and depth of Sully, whom the fans of the books all know and love, is so multi-layered and interesting. The fans deserved better than to think the embodiment of this character, me, would just disrespect not only the show, but them. In the end, we’re all fans of these characters and stories, and I’ll always support and defend the truth."
Sullivan's Crossing season 4 begins March 22 on CTV, followed by a second premiere on CW April 20.
