The White Lotus actor Jason Isaacs knows the two secrets to make an awards show worth watching
Everyone should have to swear and tell a filthy story at every awards ceremony, just like Jason Isaacs suggests. We're just saying.

When an actor has been around for as long as Jason Isaacs has, they run the risk of being nominated for any number of awards. While most performers would be jealous of Isaacs’ Emmy nomination for his part in The White Lotus, the actor himself is somewhat dreading the monotony of hearing everyone give the same speech throughout the night. In fact, he has an idea for a new awards show format that sounds much more interesting than what we usually see.
When he was asked on Jimmy Kimmel Live if he was excited for the Emmy Awards, where he is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Jason Isaacs admitted he was mainly “looking forward to the announcement of the award bit being over.” Turns out, he hates awards shows simply because they are so boring and predictable. “Most people get up there and they go, ‘I wouldn’t be here without the writer and the director,’ No s***! Of course you wouldn’t be here! The show wouldn’t happen! ‘And it’s just an honor to be nominated.’ Of course. Everyone says the same s*** every single time.”
The problem is how everyone who wins feels like they have to thank the same people as soon as they get on stage. “And then they have to name-check their publicist,” Jason Isaacs said. “And their pool guy and the heads of the network and there’s millions of people (or maybe a dozen people watching) at home and they don’t care. They want to know who you would f*** in high school or something, you know? They want a story about telling a story.”
According to The White Lotus star, things could be improved by having two rules, which he implemented when he hosted an untelevised awards show in England. “Anyone who gets up here, tell me a filthy story and please swear.”
The result, he claims, was a night where everyone had a lot more fun than the usual awards night, which we’re inclined to believe him. Let’s just hope Jason Isaacs manages to win an Emmy Award for his performance in The White Lotus so we can see if he follows his own advice.
