X-Files creator Chris Carter wants to finish his original story - but not yet

Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, still wants to believe. But he's willing to wait however long he needs to for audiences to be ready for his complete vision of The X-Files.
This August 14, a director's cut of the 2008 film, The X-Files: I Want To Believe, will hit Disney+ and Hulu, and the film has been re-titled as The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn. If you're a fellow basement office dweller, you might remember that The X-Files have been rebooted twice since then, in 2016 and 2018, to tepid response from fans and critics. Even with the subsequent reboots, Chris Carter feels he hasn't told the full story he envisioned for Mulder and Scully.
But now that Ryan Coogler is developing an X-Files reboot of his own, Carter revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he's willing to hold off on returning to Quantico proper so that he doesn't disrupt what Coogler has in place for his specific reboot.
"The thing that was unexpected, but now highly anticipated, is the Ryan Coogler reboot. I don’t want to do anything to compete with that. I don’t want to do anything to get in the way of that. I don’t want to play off of that. I want to continue to tell and finish the story arc that I have in mind. That said, I’m anxiously awaiting his version. My name is on it as executive producer, but I have done exactly nothing. I am, like everyone else out there, excited about what it may be," Carter said.
Will we ever get Chris Carter's complete X-Files story? We'll just have to wait and see, and perhaps even believe. But regardless, The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn is the first step in assembling the full picture.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe – Vrach Frankenshteyn will be released on August 14 on Disney+ and Hulu.
