Marvel Cinematic Universe fans know that Loki is, famously, not to be trusted — he’s a trickster god who traditionally has been in it only for himself… until the series finale of Disney+’s Loki, at least. But can the same be said of the actor who plays him, Tom Hiddleston? Just how trustworthy is he, anyway?
The reason we’re wondering this is that Hiddleston has revealed that he’d like to take part in a future season of The Celebrity Traitors, the UK version of the fantastically popular Peacock series here in the US… but that he’d rather do so as one of the Faithful. Which is exactly what a Traitor would say, if you think about it.
"I mean [appearing on] the celebrity one would be amazing. I think the whole show, the format is just the most ingenious thing, isn't it? It's completely compulsive. Maybe the best television I've ever seen,” Hiddleston said during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 2.
Asked if he’d rather take part as a Traitor or a Faithful, Hiddleston chose he latter, “because then you can play detective,” adding, “you know that your conscience is clean and your heart is pure, and you’re just watching and trying to figure people out.” If he was to be a Traitor, he reasoned, “it’s more of an acting exercise, right? It’s a game, you have to keep deceiving and cloaking and dissembling and basically lying to people. It would be interesting, though. I don’t know.”
Sounds to me that someone is trying to keep us guessing… just like a Traitor! Or, you know, a man known for playing a trickster god for years in one of the most popular cinematic franchises of all time. You be the judge.
The Celebrity Traitors, season 1, is currently streaming in the US on Peacock. Tom Hiddleston will next be seen as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, in theaters December 18.
