Considering that there was a time when we weren’t sure we would even get a Wonder Man series, the fact that Marvel has snuck out a short teaser the the MCU series is somewhat remarkable. The clip is suitably short and doesn’t tell us much about the plot of the Disney+ series, but it does show Ben Kingsley and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II getting into the kind of trouble actors tend to find when you leave them unsupervised.
Back when we first saw Iron Man 3, we didn’t think we’d still be talking about Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery all these years later. However, the teaser for Wonder Man, which was released as part of Marvel's Look Ahead to upcoming Disney+ series, shows that the MCU isn’t done with the actor as he appears to play a big role in Abdul-Mateen II’s Marvel debut. Of course, every great actor needs a coach, and that appears to be the role Slattery is filling for Simon Williams. While we’ve known Kingsley would be back for Wonder Man for a while now, the trailer really drives home how much we’re probably going to see him when the show airs in December 2025.
Like the Russo Brothers before them, the producers of Wonder Man seem to be taking a very loose approach to the comic book canon for the series. Assuming that the show will explore the character’s origin story, it will be interesting how they show him gaining his powers while working as an actor rather than tying his powers to his past as a weapon developer to rival Tony Stark. We think it is the right move; it provides the chance to poke fun at the MCU with some delightfully meta humor while also focusing on one of the things that makes the character unique within Marvel comics.
Wonder Man stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Ben Kingsley, Demetrius Grosse, and Ed Harris. It will debut on Disney+ in December 2025.
