Blumhouse founder teases Five Nights at Freddy's plans

The Five Nights at Freddy's universe could get a little bigger

Even though the Five Nights at Freddy’s film doesn't even hit theaters for another week, excited FNAF fans are already speculating about what might be next. After all, there are already countless games, books and comics, so... could this be the start of a new horror film franchise?

Blumhouse founder Jason Blum seems to think it might be, but he’s not just thinking of sequels. In the grand tradition of so many other horror icons, he’s thinking bigger. Blum wants to see Five Nights at Freddy’s crossovers.

At New York Comic Con’s Blumfest panel, Blum teased audiences with two crossovers he thinks would be fun as part of the Blumhouse universe and beyond: FNAF vs M3GAN and FNAF vs Michael Myers.

“If I could just get the rights holders to get along, we could do all these movies,” he said to the crowd in attendance.

Blum isn’t interested in repeatable, boring successes. He wants to push the boundaries of what Blumhouse is capable of because that’s a fundamental part of the company’s DNA.

“I think the biggest challenge running Blumhouse is trying to keep... the problem when people have success is they get lazy or try to repeat [their success],” he said. “We really try and do things that are new. We don’t always succeed at that but we are always trying to make things that are scary and new.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s starring Josh Hutcherson, Mary Stuart Masterson, Lucas Grant and Matthew Lilliard hits theaters on October 27, and starts streaming on Peacock that same day.
