Hot off a resurgence in popularity thanks to Marvel Rivals, X-Men fan-favorite Magik is back - and this time she's bringing her older brother, Colossus!
In 2026, Marvel Comics is launching a new comic book series titled, simply, Magik and Colossus, written by Ashley Allen and drawn by Germán Peralta. While we got a taste of what to expect when it was announced at New York Comic Con 2025, it turns out that the cover released to accompany the announcement was for the second issue of the series. Now, we at Popverse have an exclusive look at the cover of Magik and Colossus #1, as well as the preview art shown at the Marvel panel at NYCC, which you can check out below. (We've also included the previously released #2 cover, because why not?)

Of course, we couldn't drop all this on you without a word from the writer herself, Ashley Allen! Speaking with Popverse, Allen dished on how this ongoing series will bring the Rasputin siblings together like never before (in their home country of Russia!), as well as where this current era finds Colossus, who didn't have the best of times during Krakoa.
Popverse: At NYCC 2025, you talked about the series featuring not just a family reunion for the Rasputins, but also a return to Russia – is it safe to say this series is going to give fans a chance to see a different side to Magik and her brother than they might be used to, outside of their traditional X-Lives? Despite both characters having been around for decades, we’ve really not seen that much of them in their homeland.
Ashley Allen: I think it’s safe to say that the Rasputins have a complicated history and in our series, we’re having them confront their past by returning to the place it all began – Russia. In our series, I wanted to explore who Illyana and Piotr were before they were Magik and Colossus. How did they grow up? How has it influenced them? And potentially how can confronting their past and assumptions help the both of them move forward?
The heart of our series is about healing, growth, and family. Although, fans can expect to see good ole sibling bonding … and fighting throughout the way.
Poor Colossus doesn’t have the luckiest history when it comes to family reunions, especially when you think about what happened during the Krakoan era – or even just what brought Illyana into the X-Books in the first place, what with being kidnapped to Limbo and everything! – it’s something that fans love about these two characters together, but how much does that play into what’s happening in this series?
My poor baby Colossus! He did not have a fun time in Krakoa. In fact, Colossus has always been put through the wringer. And Illyana hasn’t had a fun time herself. However, in our earlier Magik series, Illyana has taken steps to actively start the healing process, confronting and accepting her past to let it shape her rather than break her. Colossus, instead, has almost been running away from his past (for example, in X-Force, he was going under the name of Tank).
In Magik, Illyana and Dani [Moonstar, Magik's past New Mutants teammate] helped each other to grow as people and move forward in life and in their relationship as friends. In our series, we hope to do the same with Magik and Colossus. We open with Illyana seeing her brother spiraling and instantly recognizing similarities with her past. Magik now gets to take on the role of a teacher, helping her brother to see how to move forward from his past.
This series follows your Magik series (also created with Germán). What is it about the character that brings you back – and what is it about German that makes him such an exciting collaborator to work with?
At the heart of it, Magik is a character that should have been a villain but despite everything, has chosen to try and make the world a better place. She’s not perfect (and more than a little rough around the edges) but she has a heart of gold. For that reason, Magik is one of my favorite characters at Marvel and why it is always such a joy to return to writing her. The possibilities for storytelling are endless and I will never say no to an opportunity to getting to play in Illyana’s sandbox
And for someone who says they don’t get along with people, Illyana has made such an impact in the Marvel Universe. She has such a rich history which is why it is so fun to get to explore her relationships with such a wide array of characters! Also, who doesn’t love a girl with a big sword, insane magical wheelhouse, and ability to teleport. The fight scenes are so fun to choreograph!!
Germán is a blast to work with!! I cannot stress enough how exciting it is to see his pages come in. He has such a great way of showing motion on a page – he instantly knows how to visualize the spells I’m suggesting and elevates them to a whole new level! But he also can knock it out of the park with the calmer, emotional character beats. (I mean have you seen the last page of Magik #4??)
As a writer who loves writing supernatural stories with heart, Germán is such an exciting collaborator and friend to work with.
One last thing: What is the one line you’d give to an X-Fan who’s curious about the series but not necessarily up to date with either character to convince them to try the book?
If you’re into bold magical fight scenes, confronting ancient horrors, and learning something about yourself along the way, this is the series for you! (And there will be halva!)
Magik and Colossus #1 will be released on February 4, 2026.
