Marvel is finally giving X-Men legend Dani Moonstar her first solo series after more than 40 years
More than forty years after she debuted as a founding member of the New Mutants, the X-Men's Dani Moonstar will lead her own solo book

Dani Moonstar has been beloved by X-Men fans ever since she debuted as an original member of X-Men spin-off group the New Mutants back in 1982. But despite an expansive comic book history, which includes a stint as one of Odin's Valkyries, Dani has yet to become a household name among pop culture fans. Hopefully, that will all change soon with the announcement of her first-ever solo series, Moonstar.
The newly released one-off comic book Echo: Seeker of Truth #1 from Marvel featured an in-house ad that offered a "diverse sampling of incredible books you can find on shelves now and coming up." Amongst already released books like White Tiger: Reborn #1, Rogue Storm #1, and Miles Morales: Spider-Man #40 (not to mention the entire 60-issue run of digital-only series Avengers Academy, which was cancelled in September) was Moonstar #1, which was specified as "Coming Soon: 1/28!"
No other information about the book's plot or creative team was included, though it looks like the cover of Moonstar #1 was drawn by artist Joshua Swaby. Take a look at the ad for Moonstar #1 below.

Dani Moonstar can currently be found leading a team called the X-Vengers as part of the X-Men's Age of Revelation event, set 10 years ahead of the regular Marvel timeline. The X-Vengers are made up of former members of the Avengers who have been turned into mutants, and their book is written by Jason Loo and drawn by Sergio Davila. During the X-Men's recent Krakoa era, Dani was an important member of the reunited New Mutants, training the next generation of young mutants on the island to master their abilities, and in the current-day Marvel canon most recently appeared as a guest-star in the Magik series.
Dani Moonstar's powers lie mostly within her ability to mentally project images from both her mind and the minds of others into the real world. She can also communicate with animals and has limited telepathy. Beyond her mutant powers, Dani is an accomplished archer and fighter and is also a part-time Valkyrie who can sense impending doom in those around her. (It was a whole thing involving Thor, Loki, and Hela.)
Curiously, Marvel has already solicited its January 2026 releases with no mention of Moonstar's launch - while the line-up of January 2026 Marvel comics released for fans and retailers alike on October 23 does feature new launches inside the X-Men family, Dani is conspicuously absent. This doesn't mean the title won't appear in January, as Marvel could 'retro-solicit' the comic for a January release with retailer details for February comics, it does suggest that the title's schedule may not be as concrete as Echo: Seeker of Truth's mention might suggest. Popverse reached out to Marvel for confirmation about the book's release date and creative team, and was told that there is "Nothing to share yet, but more to come soon!"
Stay tuned to see if Moonstar #1 will be released on January 28, 2026.
