Marvel Comics realized they've been collecting the X-Men Messiah Complex stories wrong for the last 17 years

Marvel's omnibus for X-Men: The Messiah Trilogy will include tie-in issues that "historically have never been included until now" - and skip issues that don't continue the story at all

As any X-Men reader can tell you, being a fan of Marvel's Merry Mutants means consigning yourself to heaps of tie-in issues whenever a crossover event rolls around. It's part of why the omnibuses for House of M, Inferno (the original), Mutant Massacre, what have you, are all massive. There are a lot of mutants in the Marvel Universe, and there is a lot of story to be told!

Now, Marvel Comics is gearing up to collect the Messiah Trilogy for the first time in a single omnibus, and the publisher has issued a correction for the issues contained in the omnibus. Originally, the X-Men: The Messiah Trilogy HC was set to include Cable (2008) #11-12 and X-Men: Messiah Complex Mutant Files, which the publisher specifies are "three issues that have historically been collected with these crossovers but don't actually tie in." Instead, those issues will be replaced by "X-Men: Blind Science (2010) #1 and X-Men: Hellbound (2010) #1-3, four issues that do tie-in, but historically have never been included until now." What a revelation!

As a result, the inclusion of four new issues in the Messiah Trilogy omnibus expands the book's page count by 48 pages, bringing it to 1160 pages in total. And yet, despite the added page count, the publisher assures that "the price remains unchanged." According to the book's listing on Penguin Random House's website, the omnibus is $125, a standard price for a Marvel omnibus.

Now I'm left wondering how this mistake was caught, but big ups to whoever caught it.

X-Men: The Messiah Trilogy omnibus will go onsale on June 23, 2026.
