Ryan Stegman has worn many hats within the comic book industry. Artist, writer, 'Venom Boy,' he contains multitudes. And now, Stegman is hanging up his X-Men hat for good to board a new, secret project that he is writing and drawing.
Revealed on his newly launched Substack aptly titled Ryan's Newsletter, Stegman broke the news to his friends and enemies: "I’m no longer drawing X-Men. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’m writing an X-Men Annual that Steve Skroce is drawing, and I’m drawing some of that. But THEN, I’m officially done with the X-Men for the foreseeable future. I had a great time working on the title and love the X-Men fans. Sort of."
No hard feelings on either side it seems.
The writer-artist continued, "Beyond that, I’m working on a billion covers and a secret project that I am very excited about. I will be writing and drawing a thing, and that’s all I can say!!!!"
What will that mystery project be? We'll just have to wait and see, and keep our eyes peeled for new editions of Ryan's Newsletter.
You can subscribe to Ryan's Newsletter to stay in the loop with Stegman about all that he's working on. Stegman also joked that he wants to use his Substack to "shit-talk Chip Zdarsky behind his back" and that the newsletter "is a safe space from that Canadian menace." I can't wait to see if Zdarsky fires back in the next edition of his own Substack newsletter. Comics are great.
