Diego Luna & Gael Garcia Bernal are reuniting for The Boys spinoff set in Mexico

Luna will be joined as producer of The Boys: Mexico by his Y Tu Mamá También co-star, Gael Garcia Bernal

Gen V was only the beginning; Amazon's Prime Video is looking to expand The Boys universe even further, both in terms of an additional spin-off from the superhero satire series, and in geographical terms, as well, with reports that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal are teaming up to executive produce and potentially star in a show that currently has the working title The Boys: Mexico.

Deadline is reporting that Luna and Bernal are working with Blue Beetle writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer on the project, with the latter acting as a third executive producer, as well as creator and writer on the show.

According to Deadline, the three are currently looking for an additional writer to work with Dunnet-Alcocer as co-showrunner, with plans also underway to set budgets for the project. Beyond the trio of executive producers, the new series will come from Eric Kripke and Kripke Enterprises, Point Grey Pictures and executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and Original Film, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon MGM Studios.

The Boys: Mexico will be the third spin-off from The Boys, which is readying its fourth season for a 2024 debut; both The Boys: Diabolical — an animated anthology featuring stories both inside and outside the show’s main canon — and Gen V debuted this year, with the latter already renewed for a second season.

Luna and Bernal have been friends since they co-starred in Alfonos Cuarón’s Y Tu Mamá También in 2001. They have been working together as producers under their shared La Corriente del Golfo company since 2018, with two previous productions — Cassandro and Pan y Circo — created for The Boys: Mexico’s home Prime Video.
