Critical Role is giving Beauregard Lionett from Mighty Nein a deeper backstory for Prime Video series, according to star Marisha Ray
OG Critical Roler Ray was giving fans of her human monk Beau at New York Comic Con reason to get excited for Prime Video's animated adaptation of campaign 2, The Mighty Nein.

Popverse's top stories
- Matthew Lillard got his Daredevil: Born Again role because he's DM to the showrunner
- DC is developing a new Batman comic with Cliff Chiang & Brian Azzarello, reuniting the 'New 52' Wonder Woman duo
- Livestream Critical Role, The Boys, and more panels from Seattle's ECCC 2026 free thanks to Signet Collectibles!
It may be tough to believe, but in adapting their second campaign (which spans over a hundred 4-plus-hour episodes) the Critical Role gang is actually going to be expanding on some character backstories for Prime Video's The Mighty Nein. At San Diego Comic Con this year, we found out that there would be more time spent in the past of beloved tiefling Jester Lavorre, and now, we know who else is getting a bit more backstory injected into their character arc for the Titmouse animated series.
It's the human monk, Marisha Ray-voiced, all-around-badass Beauregard Lionett.
Marisha Ray herself was at New York Comic Con 2025 to talk about what fans can expect out of The Mighty Nein animated series, alongside fellow OG Critical Role castmates Sam Riegel, Liam O'Brien, Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe , Matthew Mercer, Ashley Johnson, and Travis Willingham. During the course of the discussion, the panel's moderator called on Ray to tease what was in store for Beauregard Lionett, AKA Beau, pictured (quite on-brand) above.
"You get to see a little bit of where Beau is coming from," said Ray, "Before she meets the rest of these chaos goblins. Beau is definitely someone who is coming in with a lot of agency, and honestly, a decent amount to lose from the get-go. She is trying to trying to prove herself and, as you can imagine, that clashes with some people. But yeah, it's going to be... I'm very excited for the fans to see a little bit of both life at the Cobalt Soul before she…"
Here, Ray trailed off, very careful not to reveal any series surprises before their time.
"It's so hard talking around this," said fellow castmate Willingham, aware of Ray's pain.
"I don't want to spoil anything, man!" Ray said, "Did I say too much?"
Not at all, Marisha. We Critters at the panel (or at least, on the internet reading about the panel), were already familiar with the Library of the Cobalt Soul, the monastic order to which Beau has dedicated herself and which is itself dedicated to the preservation of Exandrian lore, history, and science. That said, perhaps there are some things we don't know about the order (or even its most famous member) that still await their reveal once The Mighty Nein debuts on Prime Video on November 19.
With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:
- How to watch Critical Role in order
- Travis Willingham on the differences between The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein
- Taliesin Jaffe on playing Mollymauk Tealeaf for Campaign 2 vs. playing him for Prime Video
- Matt Mercer's homebrew warrior class (created originally for Vin Diesel)
...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
