A quick glance at what she's done recently will tell you Daredevil: Born Again star Deborah Ann Woll is a pretty big fan of Dungeons and Dragons. With Tales from Woodcreek, the actor/DM has put together one of the most unique offerings in the TTRPG actual play medium, so it's surprising to learn that, at one point in her life, Woll felt that D&D was unaccessible. Obviously she's gotten over that feeling, and these days, she's focusing on not just creating in that world, but getting new players involved and excited.

I got to chat with Woll ahead of Tales from Woodcreek season 2 launching its Kickstarter campaign (which is currently running as you read this). In case you're unaware, season 1 introduced the webseries as part reality show, part escape room, and part D&D actual play, populated by a core cast of actors familiar with D&D and a handful of guest stars that may be less so. For season 2, Woll told me, that tradition of newbie guests will continue, partially springing from Woll's desire to make D&D less intimidating to new players.

"One of my favorite things in the world is to introduce new players," the True Blood star told me, "But I also like showcasing that new players can jump in and play this game with ease. Part of what kept me away from playing D&D for so long was feeling like I needed permission, that I had to read a bunch of books before I could do it, that someone had to invite me in, and it kept me away from playing this incredible game for so long."

"Part of my mission now," she continued, "As someone who creates this content is to make it more accessible. I always tell people, you can pick up the starter set in the morning and play D&D that afternoon with a bunch of people who've never played before, and it should feel that easy to play. I like to showcase that it is that easy to play on the content that I create. So we're hoping to have many guests this season. Some may have some experience, but for sure we want to have a few that do not."
