After Edge of Eternities, Magic: The Gathering fans are hungry for a Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel set

There are a series of Marvel Comics Universes Beyond sets planned for Magic: The Gathering. Could one of them be for Guardians of the Galaxy?

Magic: The Gathering x Marvel's Spider-Man release date is just around the corner on September 26, but Magic: The Gathering fans are already looking ahead to the next Marvel Universes Beyond set. Ever since Wizards of the Coast confirmed that the addition of the Soul Stone in the Spider-Man set last month, as part of a larger string of Marvel Universes Beyond sets, fans have been speculating what other Marvel properties could get the same treatment as Spider-Man.

But now, in the wake of the latest Universes Within set, Edge of Eternities, fans are hungry to see the Guardians of the Galaxy get their own Magic: The Gathering set. Mark Rosewater, the design lead at Magic: The Gathering, answered a question on his blog about whether or not Wizards of the Coast would ever make a Guardians of the Galaxy set - specifically, one that included a Rocket Raccoon card. Rosewater responded, "I can’t speak to specific characters, but part of getting any license is trying to get as many beloved characters from the property as we can."

So, while that's neither a confirmation nor a denial of Wizards of the Coast's future plans, let's remember the entire vibe of Edge of Eternities: space opera. Edge of Eternities established a new artifact subtype within Magic with Spacecrafts, because you need something to shuttle you around when you're in space, after all. The rules for Commander were amended so that you could designate any legendary Vehicle or any legendary Spacecraft with a power/toughness stat as your deck's commander. All of these additions to Magic set up a Guardians of the Galaxy set swimmingly.

Until Wizards of the Coast announces what the next Marvel Universes Beyond set is, we'll be speculating.
