Marvel Studios' Loki season 2 debuts today - but Our Flag Means Death's return is Popverse fans' choice for the weekend

Bad news for Marvel, but a fine day for lovelorn pirates of the high seas

The people have spoken — and it wasn’t even close.

We asked you earlier this week which second season you were most excited to watch, choosing from the two shows returning to streaming today: Marvel’s Loki, or Max’s Our Flag Means Death. And, after more than 2,000 votes — 2,046 at time of writing — the answer is embarrassingly clear: Stede, Blackbeard and the errant crew of the Revenge are unmistakably victorious, with a whopping 97 percent of the vote.

This is easily a sign of the strength of Our Flag fandom, and potentially a sign that Max should be doing victory laps around the Disney+ offices for the next day or so, too. Thankfully, OFMD’s new season has already dropped three episodes as I’m writing this, giving what is clearly a ravenous fandom something to chew on until next week’s additional eps. (The OFMD release schedule is explained here; it’s a curious mix of binge watching and exercising patience.)

Meanwhile, Loki’s return won’t happen until 6pm PST, 9pm EST tonight, at which point Our Flag fans might be looking for some kind of palate cleanser following their favorite offering. It’s little comfort for the Marvel series — the first ever to get a second season, surprisingly enough — but at this point, following this level of underperformance, it should really be grateful for what it can get. Marvel Studios, if there’s a lesson to take from this, maybe it’s making sure that Loki takes to the high seas in season 3. That or, you know, make the show more of a fun queer romance; I suspect pirate Loki might be a little more likely, however.

As always: thank you to everyone who took part in the poll. Somewhere, some lovelorn pirates are very, very happy that you did.

If you’re looking for something else to watch after Our Flag Means Death, we have some suggestions.
